First day of outdoor season was yesterday! Looks to be wide open on the big school guys side wth GJR and Hickory slight favorites. On the girl's side Hickory, GC and SR should contend. Small school it looks like West Middlesex is the favorite in both boys and girls but in dual meets it can come down to how teams match up against each other.

Mercer's numbers are way up this year. 40+ on both the girls and boys teams.

When are the Wilmington relays? When is the WM invitationals? I have not ever had this much anticipation for a track season before. I can hopefully get to see some throwing events this year.

Wilmington relays kick off the season on March 26. Always a fun time if the weather holds up.

Any scrimmages to report? On a beautiful day SR went against Senca Valley a big AAA team and got some good lessons and competition.

I know the Slippery Rock girls lost some really big talent to graduation. Shaffer,Grossman,Hogue & McCune to name a few. I think Grove City is going to be tough to beat this year. Also, the Greenville girls have about 10 Seniors this year and most are 3 year letter winners. Should be fun to watch.

GC girls are loaded but do not sleep on Hickory as they will be solid and in the throws dominant. SR girls lost a lot but still have two sophs who were state qualifiers as freshmen.

Wilmington Relays were yesterday and in spite of the cold there were some good performances. West Middlesex showed they should be the top small school in the area in both guys and girls while GC girls demonstrated jumping dominance as well as strength in the distances. Kildoo from GC in the distances looks to be the best in the area.

Besides Fawn Miller from Lakeview, any other guy or girl athletes got a chance to go D1?

If you are talking senior class Casalnova from GC is going to Bucknell and could have gone to several other D1 schools. Not sure where she is going but I would imagine Woods from Hickory could also go. No senior guys come to mind. Jake Kildoo from GC is a junior but would be a D1 prospect.

I take it the GC girl is going to Bucknell to run the 400 and 800?

It is up to the coaches there but I would guess she would be more of a 800/1500 runner in college.

I tell you what, i give people who do the 800 credit. I never did it in high school or now in college, but i tried a 800 work out today and it was not fun at all. lol. It sure is a tough race. Good luck to the young lady.

Although I am not sure of the scheduling as the dual meet part of the season comes to a close it looks like it will be between Greenville and Hickory boys and Grove City and Hickory girls in the large schools. These predictions are based upon the assumption that these schools have not already faced each other. Should be a tight contest between Mercer and West Middlesex girls to decide the small schools. WM boys take the other side.

Greenville boys went undefeated. They beat Hickory 100-50 I believe and the Hickory girls beat Grove City eighty something to sixty some last week I believe. Hickory girls beat the Slippery Rock girls earlier this season. the GC girls meet the SR girls next week for 2nd place. The team that gave Greenville a close meet was Grove City . Greenville won by 3 points I believe and it came down to the final race trhe 4x400 relay.
